About the Institute
Since it opened in 2014, the Specialised Institute for Professional Training of Teachers has focused on becoming a top centre for teacher training in Oman, aiming to improve teaching and learning in all areas, while also keeping up with global advancements in science, education, and research. Teachers are the cornerstone upon which the Ministry of Education relies for the success of its strategic plans and the achievement of its educational goals. Therefore, since its establishment, the Specialised Institute has been committed to becoming a professional resource that contributes to raising the efficiency of administrative, teaching, and supervisory staff by offering a range of strategic and short-term programmes. These programmes have been designed by experts in the field of education in cooperation with international and regional educational institutions with extensive experience in this area. The Specialised Institute has ensured that these programmes incorporate the best global practices based on international studies and experiences, presented in a manner applicable to the Omani school environment. The Ministry of Education, through the Specialised Institute, strives to elevate educational standards by fostering critical thinking, creativity, and discovery. This aims to empower the Sultanate of Oman to achieve advanced levels in education, scientific research, innovation, and a knowledge-based economy, while building national competencies equipped with modern skills across various training fields.

Accredited Strategic Programmes
The Institute currently offers fifteen accredited strategic training programmes that lead to professional certificates for teaching and supervisory staff.
Educational Research
Specialists at the Institute have published a wide body of studies between 2018 and 2025, and a Scientific Research Seminar has been held four times a year since 2021.
Professional Learning Communities
Trainees and graduates exchange practice through networks of mutual support within schools and across governorates.

The Institute cooperates with universities, government bodies and international academic institutions in training, consultancy and research.
